NIGHT VISITORS

NIGHT VISITORS - the series by Petr Bařinka - in a new way develops fields occupied by the author. Night visitors are dark creatures, perhaps intangible shadows reminding of fairytale ghosts projected into the darkness by the childs phantasy. But in which space are these creatures moving? Where is the visual space of the visitors, seeying creatures glowing in the darkness with their shining eyes? Graphic form and colours is urging us to ask not only in which space, but also at what time do these night visitors come? Undoubtedly it is the night, darkness, in which the colors cease to be clear. It is also the past from which its residents already moved out and turned off. As if this time stayed in the other level as a parallel universe, which is populated only by the shadows of memories, the minds, forgotten in another time, the ghosts of dead and souls filled with nostalgia for a lost world. These creatures dwell in this space-time, while people live in a different world. The heterogeneity of time is emerging from graphics. The parallel universe is remaining somewhere. Photographic documents of the contemporary architecture are often portrayed completely lifeless and without people, empty swimming pools, empty shops, empty factories and empty hotel rooms making a chilly impression. In this deserted world, there are night visitors unfolding in the author’s mind. It’s prevailingly the socialist environment of the former Czechoslovakia 70’s and the beginning of the 1980’s - the period of the author’s childhood, to which he returns, looking back as an adult. He can see ghosts already created by him in his childhood.
